About the Closure

Since Bytable Marketplace took form in early 2018, we have dedicated ourselves to ensuring quality, regenerative meats were made accessible and affordable to anyone wishing to purchase them. At the time, there were very few options for purchasing these products unless you were lucky enough to know the farmer directly (and to have them operate near you!).

We believed, and still do believe, the key to food systems and food production practices that will support humanity long-term is conscious consumerism - doing the research on products and companies before giving them your hard-earned dollars, and choosing to support people doing the right thing. This is important in many different aspects of life, but we believe it is most important when it comes to our food purchases and consumption.

While we love working in this industry, the food business has always been a difficult one. With some of the lowest margins of any industry, we have been greatly affected by rising costs across the board - fuel costs, shipping, and packaging on one end, and increased costs for our producers on the other. Combined with inflation, the result has been an insurmountable squeeze.

The world is a vastly different place now than it was when we started in 2018. Collectively, we have survived shortages, lockdowns, uncertainty, and loss. We have experienced many victories, large and small.

Through it all, we are most proud to have provided reliable access to quality food products to some of the most vulnerable members of our communities during the COVID-related food shortages, lockdowns, and supply chain challenges. We are second most proud that there have been other businesses who have since gained a stronger foothold in this incredibly difficult business. We like to think we had a part to play in that - by championing regenerative agriculture and publishing educational content, it feels like we not only reached a personal goal, but we have contributed to the movement of providing options for people to support farmers doing the right thing. There are simply more of those opportunities within the industry than there were a few years ago, and we hope it continues to grow.

While we are deeply saddened that we will not see our wonderful customers through another holiday season, we hope you can find new traditions to cherish for your holiday meals this year and beyond. Below are some resources that may help:
